What do you think about rap? I’m lying here in my warm, comfortable bed, trying to read about Zulu Kings as the Real Slim Shady perforates the dry wall separating my inner sanctum and my roommate’s abnormally active boudoir.
There are lots of little bits of business that get lost without big records labels, like, bribing radio stations to play certain artists ad-nauseum, or big buck media blitzes that put songs in commercials and tv shows so frequently that people forget where they actually came from. I think I can live without that.
I know what you’re thinking: sampling is an evil, soulless practice where phonies and fakes steal original ideas from the talented and hardworking. You’re absolutely right, and you’re absolutely wrong.
